Our Projects

Ecological Restoration

Our primary objective is the community-led restoration of degraded lands in the Nilgiris. To achieve this, we focus on a series of targeted activities: conducting detailed vegetation surveys to better understand local plant communities and ecosystem components; collecting seeds from native species and establishing nurseries; and partnering with small landowners to restore and rehabilitate their lands. These efforts support our broader mission to restore the Nilgiris’ landscapes, empower local communities, and ensure a thriving environment for future generations.

Regenerative Agriculture

Discover a new path to sustainable farming in the Nilgiris by joining our initiative to promote climate-resilient agricultural practices. Through the establishment of innovative pilot agroforestry plots, we create learning spaces where local farmers can experience the lasting benefits of combining crops and trees. Our hands-on training empowers farmers to produce their own natural inputs, reducing dependency on costly synthetic alternatives. By adopting regenerative methods like no or reduced tillage, cover cropping, crop rotation, and reviving traditional crops and techniques, you’ll not only enrich your soil and harvest stronger yields, but also build long-term resilience in the face of a changing climate. Take part in transforming agriculture—protect your land, enhance your livelihood, and help shape a greener future for the Nilgiris.

Rural Waste Management

Managing waste in rural areas doesn’t have to be a challenge—with the right approach, it can be an opportunity for transformation. By actively promoting the reduction of waste at its source and establishing efficient village-level waste processing units, communities can take charge of their environment and health. These small units not only sort and manage discarded materials but also convert organic waste into valuable biochar, which can improve soil quality and support sustainable farming. Additionally, by selling recyclable materials to local recyclers, villagers can generate extra income while creating a cleaner, greener district. This holistic strategy empowers rural residents to efficiently manage waste while driving economic and environmental benefits for their community.

Outreach and Awareness

Discover the wonders of the Nilgiris landscape through hands-on learning and community involvement. Our initiative brings children and local communities together for meaningful group discussions about the region’s unique environment and ecology. By teaching children to grow their own food in schools, we help cultivate sustainable habits and a deeper connection to nature. Through creative art projects, we inspire the next generation to express their understanding of ecological balance in beautiful and imaginative ways. By co-creating alternative livelihoods with local residents, we support a harmonious relationship between people and the land, ensuring the Nilgiris’ rich biodiversity thrives for years to come. Join us in nurturing both the landscape and its communities for a brighter, greener future.
